Witch cake charm

Made in England by Metal by Chaz.

The witch cake- based on a 17-19th century custom to hang special bread cakes behind doors, as an example of apotropaic magic, to keep supernatural evil-doing out of the house, or you could bake a bread cake with urine and bury, burn or feed it to someone.

Witch cakes were baked rock solid and dried in the oven, easy to make, easy to replace, and offered magical protection with a minimum of fuss.

You can keep out your own forms of evil with a witch cake charm, to be worn around the neck. Also formed rock solid, but in sterling silver to protect for a maximum length of time. (contains no urine).

All one off pieces, individually completely unique- each is different.

Chain not included.

To add an 18” silver chain, select “add chain” option

Physical examples of witch cakes live at two British museums: the Pitt Rivers Museum and the Scarborough Museums Trust. Both museums’ cakes are the same unusual shape: a circle, with spikes protruding from its sides and a hole in its center.
