Designed and made in the UK by Katie Whittaker.

Hoops roughly 2.5cm length by 2.5cm width each pair as slightly different due to the handmade nature, fish 30mm long by 7mm width.

Fish inspired by a collection of talismans from the Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford.

Fishermen from the North Norfolk coast believed that these tiny fish protected them from any harm when out at sea.

For many people today the sea is a source of entertainment or inspiration, but for the majority of human history, coastal communities have relied on it for food, livelihood, protection, and many other essential human needs. For these people, the sea was a way of life regardless of the season or weather conditions. While Katie has the privilege of being able to support a plant-based diet, she wanted to create a piece that recognises the connection to the sea that fishing communities have always had. She also wanted to transfer the idea of protection to the modern wearer, reminding them of the safety that the original carved game pieces once gave to those Norfolk fishermen.
